Wayanad Elects Priyanka Gandhi: AICC General Secretary Wins by 4+ Lakh Votes
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, AICC General Secretary and Congress candidate, achieved a significant victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election on Saturday, marking her maiden entry into Parliament. She triumphed with an impressive margin of 4,08,036 votes, surpassing her brother Rahul Gandhi’s record-breaking win in the same constituency earlier this year.
In April 2024, Rahul Gandhi had secured the Wayanad seat by a margin of 3,64,422 votes against Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate Annie Raja. However, his 2019 win in Wayanad remains the benchmark, with a margin of 4.31 lakh votes.
Priyanka Gandhi garnered a total of 6,17,942 votes, establishing her dominance over the contest. Sathyan Mokeri, the LDF candidate, received 2,09,906 votes, while Navya Haridas, representing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), managed to secure 1,09,202 votes.
Her success in this election is particularly noteworthy as it sets a new record for the Congress party in terms of vote margins in Wayanad, signaling a strong endorsement of her leadership by the electorate.
